exposing my self, carol golden, paintings 2006

When I'm in a dialog with my work, I ask questions. The painting answers. It takes on a life of its own, interpreting my visions, dictating color and composition. Showing me what I need to do next. When I reveal what I'm thinking, others can see where my path has taken me.

My relationship with writing memoir informs my painting process, as does my spiritual practice. I draw stories with layers of meaning, depth of intention as a deck of Tarot cards. Each painting becomes a sacred space, safe for the human shape to emerge and engage.

When I wipe or sand away the surface, I define and redefine bits of memories from the painting's conception. Previous thinking is exposed, ideas networking beneath the surface.
